COMMON QUESTIONS

HOW DO I GET APPROVAL TO INSTALL THIS GENERATOR ON MY PROPERTY?

Contact your electric company and ask about their policy for solar and wind energy.

WHAT IS ISLANDING AND DOES THIS GENERATOR INCLUDE ANTI-ISLANDING TECHNOLOGY?

Islanding is a phenomenon which occurs when the generator continues to create energy when the grid is down. The Whispering Winds generator comes with a low volt protector which disconnects the generator from the grid during grid power loss.

WILL THIS TECHNOLOGY INTEGRATE INTO PREVIOUSLY INSTALLED GRID-TIED OR BATTERY-TIED SOLAR PV SYSTEMS?

This will integrate into any system which has 120 volt / 60 hz current.

HOW DO I DETERMINE THE 5-YEAR COST SAVINGS FOR INSTALLING THIS GENERATOR?

Determine your current cost of a kilowatt from your existing electric bill. Determine your average wind speed. (This can be found on various internet sites or measured on your own with an anemometer) Note: figures based on wind speeds at 20 feet and not ground level
Using the chart on the home page, multiply your 24 hr KW production based on your average wind speed by 365 days in the year to determine the annual KW production. Multiply by the cost of KW/hr you pay now. For example: 18 mph wind = 23.67 kw x 365 days = 8,640 kw x .20 cents/kwh = $1728.00 per year x 5 years = $8,640 cost savings

IS THE WHISPERING WINDS WIND GENERATOR NOISY?

No. From inside your house, it sounds about the same as your furnace running.

WHAT SHIPPING AND INSTALLATION COSTS SHOULD I FACTOR INTO THE PURCHASE PRICE?

Installation costs will include any tools or materials you may not already have on hand. See the installation page for more details.
Shipping is free to the United States from the Whispering Winds Kansas Distribution Center, excluding Alaska and Hawaii. Otherwise, shipping cost will be the responsibility of the customer (contact us for arrangements).
